Week 3: Turning a new leaf

Full sun = happy plant.
Sunny Days
We’re a little late with this weeks update (pictures taken last week). However, Bob’s been on a growing frenzy. After been stratgically placed in a location with lots of daily sunlight, Bob has been pumping out the foliage.

This new leaf is the largest so far. When new leaves unfurl their colour is especially vibrant and bright. I’ve noticed the new leaf (and the second new leaf about to arrive at the time of this writing) has, at least initially, more red colouration that gives way to more green over time. Fascinating stuff.
Onward and Upward
I’ve noticed that as soon as a new leaf has fully unfurled, there is a new one, tightly coiled popping up right behind it. I’ve seen this leaves, in their coiled state referred to as ‘cigar leaves’ among other names. I haven’t found a better (or more scientific description) of the leaf in this state so we’ll go with the popular terminology found online.

Next Week
We’ll dive deeper into the care of a Banana plant and look at some different ways we can maximize growth. Stay tuned!
